There has been an increase in pedestrian accidents in West Palm Beach. In fact, West Palm Beach has three of the top ten intersections in Palm Beach County with the most bike and pedestrian accidents. According to news sources, Broadway Ave (39th Street - 48th Street), 45th Street (East Ave to Greenwood), 45th Street (Military Trail to Congress Ave) are the locations of these intersections. In response, West Palm Beach police will issue citations to drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists who violate local traffic laws.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), October is National Pedestrian Safety Month. The administration reported over 8,000 deaths due to pedestrian accidents in the first quarter of 2021 in the United States. The goal of National Pedestrian Safety Month is to increase awareness to pedestrian safety. This will be done by the Administration encouraging the public to drive safe speeds, and educating the public on new vehicle technology that warns drivers of nearby pedestrians.
Unfortunately, injuries to pedestrians from car accidents can be life-threatening. Pedestrians are at an increased risk of injuries due to the absence of any protection. Pedestrians hit by vehicles suffer from broken bones, paralysis and even death.
